Marian Battey Andersen and Charles Wheaton Battey Outstanding Teacher Award
About the Award: This award recognizes outstanding leadership or potential for leadership at Sheridan Elementary, Irving Middle School, and Lincoln High School.
Amount Awarded: $2,200
Nominated By: Rachael Kluck-Spann, Irving Associate Principal
Nomination: Lindsey Dresden is one of our finest educators. She is passionate about Science and embraces all aspects of the curriculum to give our students meaningful learning opportunities that they apply beyond the classroom. Despite the challenges of synchronous teaching/learning this year, Lindsey has gone above and beyond to ensure all students (remote and in person) continue to have high quality, personal instruction and continues to amplify the importance of collaboration, progress and feedback.
If granted this award, Lindsey will have the opportunity to continue to grow as a professional and also utilize the funds to enhance her instruction.
Although a fanatic about Science, Lindsey's first and foremost passion lies with ensuring all students have the opportunity to learn in her classroom. She establishes strong working relationships with all students and develops lessons that ensure students make connections with the learning objectives and continue to grow as Scientists. Students are not given the option to 'fail' Lindsey's classes-she provides all students several different opportunities to demonstrate what they know when they know it and collaborates regularly with our Gifted facilitator, Special Education Coordinator and all 7th grade IEP managers to modify assignments/assessments for students. Lindsey regularly reaches out to parents/guardians and partners with families to support their children.
Other staff members consistently seek Lindsey out to ask for assistance in terms of technology, developing lesson plans and partnering with students. Lindsey consistently participates in professional development opportunities within our district. She has been excited to pilot new curriculum and served as a teacher leader in terms of collaborating with other Science teachers in our building an across the district.
This year Lindsey is also serving as our Equity Liaison as she is passionate about the importance of embracing diversity. She and our Multicultural Liaison have worked tirelessly to develop presentations for staff that align with the district modules and encourages cultural awareness growth. Lindsey serves as the 'Science Olympiad' coach and spends a great deal of time outside of school working with students to create projects that they share at district events.
Lindsey is a phenomenal educator. She is a teacher who's influence goes beyond the classroom.
