Nancy Muehlhausen Counseling Award

About the Award: This award recognizes current LPS employees who are accepted into a Master's level school counseling program and indicate their intent to work as a school counselor in LPS (preferred) or a current LPS counselor in need of funds for a counseling professional development opportunity that will benefit their specific school, a group of counselors serving the same grade levels or the district wide counseling team.

Awarded Amount: $1,000

Nominated By: Self-nominated

Nomination: I strive to be the best version of myself each and every day, both professionally and personally. I have not afraid to try and I am not afraid to fail. There are lessons within each avenue. Those characteristics have guided me as I have developed as a leader. There is humility in leadership, authenticity in leadership, and vulnerability in leadership. I truly believe it is easier to communicate and hear when I walk beside my students, parents, and colleagues - rather than racing to the front or standing on a pedestal.

I have a deep commitment to service. Service is my passion and purpose in life and I have chosen multiple avenues to reach students at Northeast and in our community. This is my first year working as a School Counselor at Lincoln Northeast (my alma mater). In addition to serving our Northeast community through counseling, I also coach the girls Varsity basketball team. I am also a certified Foster Parent through CEDARS.

My counseling skills are still developing week by week. I seek advice and mentorship from my counseling team at Northeast. They are truly great. I also actively participate in trainings through LPS and community organizations. I have also maintained a 4.0 GPA in my counseling program.

State how this award will enable you to achieve fulfillment of your professional goals and future pursuits. The Nancy Muehlhausen Counseling Award will help me financially, ALOT. I have eight more courses to complete prior to August 2022. This award will be directly put towards my tuition or books. This award would take some weight off my shoulders, allow me to exhale more freely, and focus more deeply on learning.
