About the Award
Marian Battey Andersen and Charles Wheaton Battey (sister and brother) attended the following Lincoln Public Schools: Sheridan Elementary School, Irving Middle School, and Lincoln High School. Marian and Chuck believed that their success in life was a direct result of the notable teachers they had while attending K-12 public schools. After graduating Phi Beta Kappa from the University of NE, Marian Andersen enjoyed outstanding local and national service, including being the first woman and non-Lincoln person to head the University of NE Foundation (she also co-chaired its capital campaign). Marian led numerous Omaha charities and national charities including the National Red Cross Board of Directors. Chuck Battey graduated with honors from University of NE and served in executive positions with three major corporations. He was the volunteer leader of many Kansas City organizations including United Way, Public Television and Chamber of Commerce.
